I like this site a lot because it gives you cool information about the animals.

For example, this bit about Pugs:

Most sources agree that they hail from China, dating back to before 400 B.C.

The Chinese of those by-gone years bred dogs for wrinkles and markings that looked like Chinese characters. In the case of the pug, they were bred for facial wrinkles that formed a W, which resembles the Chinese character for ‘prince’.

I found this great article online on the Everett Herald website. It appears there are two less stupid drunk criminals roaming the streets. These two fellows were found sleeping on piles of loot they had stolen from a Fred Meyers storage area. They were pretty easy to find because all police had to do was follow a literal trail of debris to their location, less than two hundred feet away.

The dude on the right has a grill cover blanket, and the the guy on the left apparently fell asleep after trying to put together a hammock. Awww! Isn’t that cute! You can see the directions right next to his back.

If you’re wondering who took the pictures, I’ll tell you: it was the cops. They spent 20 minutes taking pictures of the crime scene and then woke these two boys up my reading them their rights. “We believe alcohol was involved,” Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. “I’d say a lot of alcohol was involved.”

<a href="http://www.geekscribe.com/2008/07/16/women-gamers-rock/artgirljpg/"rel="attachment wp-att-1371" title="artgirl.jpg" >According to a just-released article from the Entertainment Software Association, 40% of all US gamers are women. Take that, Guys! I… Oh wait. I am a guy, and so I must also take that, too. But that’s ok because Girl Gamers Rock! My daughter is a gamer. She is proud of it. And I am proud of the fact that she enjoys playing.

Look, guys, I have seen lots of articles that say we guy gamers look down on girl gamers, because it blows our collective (sometimes narrow) mind that anyone who doesn’t belong to the eternal brotherhood of… well… brothers, would know what a joystick was much less use one. The truth is that there are a lot of girls out there who could kick our digital behinds in the time that it takes us to say “Huh?” and scratch ourselves. So, give them a break, ok?! And encourage your sons and daughters and your girlfriends and wives to play! Because she’s going to be a lot happier with you buying Gears of War 2 if she’s played the first one and taken you to school with it.

And if you happen to be a game designer, it’s clear you need to find a way to make games that cater to this population.

And ladies, there are a lot of guys out there who just enjoy games. We don’t care who you are. We just want to play.

Ok? Nuff said.

In other news from the article, the average age of gamers has risen to 35!

65% of American households play computer or video games

One in four gamers is over 50

41% of Americans expect to purchase a game this year

So of course everyone is going crazy for Lauren Bernat, The “Wii Fit Girl.” You may have seen the video of her on this very site, posted by John. She is the current “IT” Girl on the Internet. Now, I have noticed a trend with these matters. I’d like to call this the CYCLE OF IT, for lack of a better phrase.

1) The IT Discovered.

2a) The Everywhere IT: The IT suddenly is everywhere: Books, media, movies, t-shirts — everywhere you look, the IT is there. It is exciting to see the IT or be seen by IT. The IT gives you pleasure.

2b) Emulation of IT: The IT is put on a pedestal. Everyone wants to play Copy the IT. Some people just want to be more like the IT, others want to cash in and make money. For example, remember “Friends’” haircut? Or Cabbage Patch Kids?

3) Faux Backlash: Parodies are created that make fun of the IT. This is really an aspect of 2a and 2b above.

4) DISCOVERY OF FLAWS: It is much easier to see cracks in a trophy when there is a spotlight on it. The IT is discovered to be flawed. For examples of this, remember Pee Wee Herman (alas, he likes porno theaters)? or “Lonely Girl 16″ (who wasn’t real — just a serialized story).

5) The TRUE Backlash: The IT makes you sick. Suddenly no one wants to be or be near the IT. I think this occurs for two reasons: a) What we wanted now disgusts us. But more importantly: b) We are embarrassed for ourselves. We are embarrassed that what we coveted was flawed and perhaps we are frightened that we are flawed as well.

6) Looking For A New IT: The old IT is forgotten, perhaps for awhile, perhaps forever. In the meantime, what else is out there to be discovered? A new IT awaits!

In my mind the Cycle of IT is a bit of a drug trip for everyone around the IT. This cycle has the same effects that drugs do: a super high (2) followed by a crash (4and 5). Unfortunately, this drug is highly addicting.

A long time ago, The Cycle of IT could last years, decades even. But with the advent of the Internet, and superfast communication, The Cycle of IT has shortened drastically to months or even weeks or days. We are creating a society of junkies in need of a quick fix, knowing that a crash is inevitable.

So, this brings me to the following video. I’d say it falls nicely in step 3. What do you think?:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Amazonmp3 is actually pretty cool. I wanted the song from Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack, ”Soviet Connection” recently, and tried to find it on iTunes, but it wasn’t out yet. So, on a whim, I checked Amazon.com. There it was for sale! Downloading was a snap (first I had to download something called an “Amazon MP3 Downloader” ), and the song played seamlessly with iTunes.

There are a couple of cool features I really like about this site:

1) With one button you can choose to “Preview All” or you can choose to only preview one by clicking on a play button.

2) Not all the albums are 10.00 or more, and prices actually compare favorably with iTunes. For example, right now you can find REM’s “Accelerate” for $5.00. On iTunes it is $13.99. “Narrow Stairs” by Death Cab is $8.99 on Amazon. On iTunes: $9.99.

3) You can get songs for “free” by using 5 Pepsi points. I think that’s pretty neat, although I don’t drink or collect those things. But it you do, more power to ya.

All in all, I really like the way Amazon sells music. Searching for songs is easy, and the prices seem slightly cheaper than iTunes for most full album purchases.

John and I both happen to have Blackberries. I have heard that the other name for these devices is “Crackberry,” because you basically become an addict. That’s ok with me! Mine is an 8110, and it is really sweet (although typing in stuff is difficult).

John and I both happen to have Blackberries. I have heard that the other name for these devices is “Crackberry,” because you basically become an addict. That’s ok with me! Mine is an 8110, and it is really sweet (although typing in stuff is difficult).

I especially love being able to go on the Internet. In my surfing, I ran across some cool sites for Blackberry users. Here they are:

<a href="http://www.pinstack.com"target="_blank" class="fullsource" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.pinstack.com');">www.pinstack.com: this site is a bit difficult to navigate at first. However, it is chock full of great information, and stuff related to every version of blackberry. Plus access to free games, free ringtones, etc. Well worth the time.

<a href="http://www.crackberry.com"target="_blank" class="fullsource" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.crackberry.com');">www.crackberry.com: I like this website more visually that pinstack. It has articles and the like with more pictures, and seems easier to navigate right out of the gate.

<a href="http://www.blackberrycool.com"target="_blank" class="fullsource" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.blackberrycool.com');">www.blackberrycool.com: This site has slightly different articles about Blackberry related stuff.

<a href="http://www.blackberry.com"target="_blank" class="fullsource" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.blackberry.com');">www.blackberry.com: This is the official site, of course. Believe it or not, it has cool how-to guides, interactive demos, and handy tips on it. You just have to know where to look. (Support, bottom of page)

So, those are just some of the cool sites that are out there. If you happen to run into one, leave a comment or shoot me an email! I’ll post any great sites you send. Kevin@geekscribe.com

<a href="http://www.geekscribe.com/2008/06/06/listen-to-this-amazing-music/electric-guitar-3gif/"rel="attachment wp-att-1255" title="electric-guitar-3.gif" >This is the myspace page of a friend of mine, Brent LeBlanc. He put a couple of his songs up on there, and I really hope you check them out.

My favorite of the two is “No Use in Trying,” which I can honestly say rivals most of the professional singer/song writers I have heard, and I listen to A LOT of music.

The second song is called “Moon Remix.” When I was listening to it just now, my wife told me it sounded a lot like Jack Johnson. I don’t really listen to that artist, but I can tell you this song has an upbeat tempo and is really easy to listen to.

I hear tell he is working on a couple more songs to put up there, so check back often.

Here is that site: http://www.myspace.com/brentcleblanc

By the way, I know he would be totally embarrassed to see this but he is one talented dude. Besides singing and recording and playing music, he designs websites, and also can write music for games!

I have been surfing the web since basically when Al Gore created it. And these are the strangest and scariest websites I have come across thus far. In no particular order:

Kinda Creepy But Hopefully Harmless:

http://www.cuteasabutton.com/ These toy babies scare me. So does the moving logo.

http://www.mycatspace.com/ and also www.mydogspace.com. You have a myspace account. Your firends have theirs. Why not your cat or dog? Why not indeed?! Users can add a profile for their favorite animal.

http://cheddarvision.tv/: Question - What’s more boring than watching chedder cheese age? Answer - Nothing!

Just Strange:

http://spiritcompanion.com/ This site is the blog of a person who has a spirit lover. Huh?

http://www.statuemolesters.com/gallery/index.php People molesting… statues! Who knew?!

http://www.boxwars.net/ Now this site is actually pretty cool. People dress up in costumes made of boxes and then duke it out. I did that in first grade. I sure wish I had outfits like the ones on this site. Amazing!

Disgusting and Scary:

www.rotten.com These are real pictures and stories. You should not visit this site unless you are an adult with a strong stomach. I honestly stopped looking at the links part way down because I didn’t want to have nightmares. View this site at your own risk.

http://www.webweirdness.com/hotel/sick/sick.asp Argh! This one hurts my eyes just looking at it!
