There’s a simplicity here that, while modern, doesn’t quite do the character justice. I like the jacket…a lot. The incorporation of the rocket logo on the jacket is a great touch. I think the cape could be taken off and bring us closer to a sharper look. The shoes, while not the typical super hero boots, could look a little more like sneakers instead of slippers…the reality is, a motorcycle stuntman might actually want to wear combat boots or motorcycle boots.

Here’s a look at Wolverine and the X-Men the new animated Marvel series. It’s going to be on the BBC, but hopefully it will end up coming to the US as well.

Liberation Entertainment continue to bolster its increasingly attractive portfolio of titles with the announcement today of a deal with First Serve Toonz for the acquisition of the DVD and VOD rights to a 26 part animated series based on the iconic Marvel characters Wolverine and the X-Men.

Liberation’s multi-tiered deal for one of Marvel’s most popular characters includes confirmation that the BBC has acquired the television rights for the UK.

Jay Boberg, CEO of Liberation Entertainment, said “we are very glad to be involved in this first class original series, and to be working in partnership with Marvel and First Serve Toonz.”

Spencer Pollard, MD of Liberation Entertainment said, “Wolverine and the X-Men is a huge franchise and with the Wolverine movie planned for 2008, this should secure huge interest for our DVD releases. With the strong interest in the show from the leading broadcasters around the world, we can ensure that our TV sales team can work strategically with our UK and International DVD sales teams to maximise the returns for everyone.

I’m sure this is a push since the Wolverine movie is in the works. It will be interesting to see what happens with this series.

There’s been lots of buzz recently about the upcoming season of NBC’s “Heroes.” Stories about product placement, overseas marketing, corporate breakdowns between NBC and Apple-sounds like our kind of show! Unfulfilled and misunderstood, we retreated to our own Fortress of Solitude (a.k.a. the Olive Garden in Times Square) and geeked out all night (a.k.a. we ate enough bottomless salad to cover the $9.95 menu price), Indecision 2008-style!

If you don’t know the Human Fly, he’s an honest to goodness superhero form the 70’s. He even had his own comic book for a short time.

Now for me, the Human Fly is not unknown. He’s stuntman Rick Rojatt and I watched him wing-walk on a DC-8 on television. Some years back I was researching jump bikes and found the following.

In 1977, I was contracted to build a rocket-powered motorcycle capable of jumping over 27 buses. The jump was to take place in the Montreal Olympic Stadium, as a half-time show for a concert featuring Gloria Gaynor and a number of other disco stars of the 70’s. The daredevil rider was Rick Rojatt, otherwise known as the Human Fly. At the time, Evil Kneivel held the record jump of 13 buses, and Rick wanted to beat it badly. Rick’s claim to fame at that point in his career was an astonishing stunt he’d performed over the Mojave Desert where he’d wing-walked on a DC-8 and actually made two low flying passes at 250 mph, a nearly impossible feat, and truly death-defying. The other very unique thing about this off-the-wall daredevil was that he was never seen out of costume, and kept his true identity a secret by wearing a red mask and a white cape, identical to the comic book action hero.

Source

That’s how I found out about this superhero daredevil and I keep thinking that Hollyword needs to bring something like this back. For a kid, nothing was as thrilling as Evil Kneivel (remember his toys?) or The Human Fly. Badass

Check out this jump bike.

In the meantime, this comic looks like a great way to get started in this re-imagined world of Oz.
