Reports have been hitting the web all over about Apple’s new iPhone 3G overheating at supposedly pretty drastic levels. Supposedly people have actually had plastic parts on the phone melt. This seems like a pretty bad situation overall and is one reason why I’ve wanted to wait before jumping to something like the iPhone. Apple is known for blasting out a few generations in short order so i figure why not wait a couple years.

Yes, Steve Jobs did one of his usual keynote speeches at the 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference and confirmed the rumors of the iPhone 3G. Supposedly this will be faster internet and everything else. And to think just a month or so ago I could have bought an iPhone. I would be so pissed off right now. Thankfully I bought a Blackberry. I even remember when a friend bought like a 15 GB iPod and just a month later, the 30GB Video iPod came out. Can you say livid?

What’s even more surprising than Apple screwing people with something new is that new price tag is on $199. Most mobile phones that have similar features are about $300, so it’s certainly a bold move on Apple’s part to take on the phone world. That’s like the price of a MotoRazr or something isn’t it?

One thing that still really, really bothers me about the iPhone is that you’re forced to move to AT&T. I have a huge family plan at my current vendor and various contract dates on the phone. My daughter dropped on in a puddle less than a year ago and had to get a new one and hence, we had to extend to get the better price. To be fair…she had the phone in her jeans pocket and actually dropped herself in the puddle. Anyway, the point here is that I can’t just jump ship and/or pay the $300 cancellation fee for each phone to switch carriers. Apple would do so much better if you could choose with the iPhone. Then they would truly take a much large market share.

Until that day, I’ll live just fine without one.

Well, just as Apple is known for doing…new higher capacity models are now out for the iPod Touch and the iPhone. They have double the memory space and are $100 cheaper then before. I feel bad for all the suckers out there who bought one already. of course Apple does this all the time, making owning one a bit like a revolving door. At some point you just have to step in and go.

Apple Inc. updated its iPhone and iPod Touch lineup Tuesday, doubling the memory and setting a new premium price for its high-end models.

The latest iPhone features 16 gigabytes of memory and retails for $499. The previously released 8 GB version of the hybrid cell phone, multimedia player and wireless Internet device costs $399.

The new iPod Touch comes with 32 GB of memory and retails for $499. The older 16 GB and 8 GB versions of the combination multimedia player wireless Internet gadget cost $399 and $299, respectively.

The new devices are available through Apple’s online and retail stores. The updated iPhone is also available through AT&T Inc.’s online and retail stores.

I do like the fact that the iPod touch has a 32GB model now. I have the 30GB Video iPod and it still works great and has room on it for me, so that’s proved to be a great size. Just don’t use powered noise-canceling headphones. I did that and almost screwed up my hard drive. Something in the power feedback seemed to really mess it up for a couple days giving me a bunch of errors. Everything I read said it was toast, but it actually came back after connecting to iTunes repeatedly and has never had a problem since (about a year).

Steve Jobs has just introduced another amazing device: “The World’s Thinnest Notebook.”

“Sporting a silvery finish, the MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display — it saves power and provides “instant on” response from the moment you turn it on, according to Jobs. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile that runs from 1.2 inches down to 0.8 inches high. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches.”

The answer, according to Apple, is APPLE. They say they have sold more than 7 MILLION movies. HDDVD and Blu have sold a combined 6 MILLION movies. All three were introduced in 2006.

Now, these are actually movie rentals that they have sold.

And you can’t watch the extras on one of their downloads.

But they sure are making a big deal out of it.

A new online network launches today for Apple followers. The Digitalifestyle (www.thedigitallifestyle.tv) mixes original programs along with
popular Apple/tech-related podcasts, and YouTube material, as well as daily news updates and live coverage of breaking tech news events.

“Imagine if you could watch a 24-hour TV network dedicated to Apple news, rumors, and lifestyle. We’ve created that experience online,” said founder Ryan Ritchey. Podcasts coming to the lineup include “CommandN” with Amber Mac, and Mogan Webb’s “Webb Alert.”

Utilizing live video technology from Mogulus, viewers are able to watch live broadcasts, as well as participate by submitting their own video
segments. Original shows on the network include “Root Access,” a weekly live tech help show with a former “Mac Genius,” and “Gary’s Garage,”  a look at Apple and other company’s products of days gone by.

“We want this network to bring the benefits and pitfalls of living the Digital Lifestyle to light, while engaging and interacting with the
audience in a new way,” Ritchey said

I’ve checked out the site and it’s very cool. They’ve got a show with a Mac Genius in case you’ve ever wanted to ask a question, but were afraid to. How could you go wrong with Morgan Webb and a dedicated show for the iPhone. Yummy!

iPod Shuffle

The iPod Shuffle has a newer shape and lots of new colors. I think it’s a new shape at least. Personally, I suggest at least buying a Nano for the screen and the bigger disk space.

iPod Nano

The Nano is now is bigger than before. It’s wider and has a two-inch screen for watching stuff.

The new Nano will be available in 4GB and 8GB models. The 4GB will only come in metal gray and the 8GB will have all the colors shown. You can use the cover-flow feature and it has some built in games. You can also buy games though iTunes.

iPod Classic

What was the iPod x.x (version number) is now the iPod Classic. It’s been rounded a bit and reshaped.

The new iPod Classics come with storage space galore. The cheaper one has an 80GB disk, but for $100 more…you might as well get the 160GB size.

iPod Touch

It’s an iPhone with no phone. I’m still unclear how it gets it’s WiFi without that. Nothing I read in the Apple site really cleared it up for me. It supposedly has WiFi all the time wherever you are, but who’s the ISP or carrier?

It has the Safari browser and YouTube functionality. There’s a new iTunes store just for the WiFi on the iTouch. It only comes in 8GB and 16GB models, which is a real bummer. Like I said above. Wait 3-6 months and the hard drive size will double (not to mention a price cut).

iPhone

The iPhone is still the same but just got a $200 price cut. of course this made the original buyers mad so Steve has no apologized and offered a $100 Apple store credit to those people.
