Ghosts of Rockville – Search for The Dominion Glass is a new book by Justin Heimberg for kids. It’s the first book in a series of five, and has a really cool technology that should enthrall young readers. I’ll get to that in a second. First, we should talk about the story.
From the publisher:
Ghosts of Rockville: Search for the Dominion Glass features four unlikely friends who’ve come together as ghost hunters to face their biggest challenge yet: the search for a key that unlocks a mystical artifact that holds the power to control the spirit world.
The first book is about a 12- year-old boy who gets a blank piece of paper in the mail. He’s used to strange things like that. He’s a ghost hunter after all. Soon, he’s dealing with “a paranormal puzzle involving spirit boards, crop circles, an ancient secret order, and just about every ghost type in the Encyclopedia of the Paranormal.” Good thing he’s brought his friends. And what about that blank piece of paper… how does it fit into this mess? Read it to find out!
Besides an involving and interesting story, the book has a pretty sweet new technology that your kids will love. It comes with a little plastic window that your child places on certain pages. Depending upon which way the plastic window is turned, new pictures or messages will appear. For example, one of the pages has what appears to be a blank crystal ball on it. You know, the kind that people supposedly gaze into to reveal the future. Well in this book things do really appear, in crystal balls, artwork, etc. I was able to see a mysterious skull, a symbol, a headstone, and a sword simply by turning my magic window. Each picture appears alone in the very space the previous picture appeared. It’s pretty cool. Once you see it in person, you’ll understand how neat it is.
The proprietary technology the books use is called MagicView (no, I’m not making this up! It’s sweet, and I wish I had invented it).
Each corner has a letter on it that represents a character in the book, and when you turn the MagicView window, you will see what that character sees. Turn it again, and you’ll see only what the next character sees.
Ghosts Of Rockville Search for The Dominion Glass will be released on September 13, 2011.
