I sure wish I had an iPhone, or even an iPod Touch. I have heard so much about the Applications (aka Apps) you can download for use on either device. I have also heard that not all aps are created equally. There are a ton of apps out there, and while many are excellent, there are also quite a few terrible ones.
So, how do you choose the perfect app for your needs? Why not check out this new book I found, “Best iPhone Apps – The Guide For Discriminating Downloaders” by Josh Clark. It’s new from O’Reilly. It lists the 200 best apps in many different categories, and each has a picture, a description, and a price. For example, what’s the best app for playing traditional radio? Clark chose Wunder ($6.99). Here is a snippet from the book: “Wunder Radio lets you find radio stations by location or programming format… you can even tune into your local weather stations or police scanner.”
How about an app for “Achieving Zen-Like Calm”? Clark suggests Koi Pond ($.99) “Just like the real thing, that’s all there is to it: a relaxing environment.” “You can tap or drag to make the water ripple and the fish scatter.” You can also feed the fish if you want. Amazing.
There are all kinds of great categories, from games to apps to help you balance your checkbook. It’s really the perfect gift for any Geek or loved one with an iPhone.
