The Secret Doorway: Beyond Imagining is a unique book, to say the least. The author, Paul Hutchins, had a wild life growing up. At the age of 19, he was involved (as a passenger) in a high speed pursuit in which he and his friend were shot at by the sheriff. During the chase, he writes, he silently prayed that he wouldn’t be hit by a bullet. This was a moment of change for Paul. Previously, he had been mixed up in drugs, petty crime and the like. He realized that he had to make a change.
Paul Hutchins looks a lot like Craig T. Nelson from the TV show Coach. To me, he seems like a guy you might like to sit down and talk with for a spell. He certainly has led an interesting life. The teenage boy who cowered in the front passenger seat praying that a bullet wouldn’t hit him has grown in to a self-assured man. He is a successful entrepreneur and businessman with a wife and three adult daughters.
Paul’s friend, the driver from the high speed chase went to prison. Afterward his life continued on a much different path than Paul’s life did. He later went on to have his own starring role in an episode of America’s Most Wanted, for a double murder. One of Paul’s brothers went to prison and was eventually shot and killed.
With all that chaos, it might surprise you to learn that Hutchins has written a book about order. This is a philosophical book that examines the universe, through pictures taken by Hubble and artist renderings and the human imagination. Is the Universe a result of random and chaotic creation, or was there a intelligent design? This is the true subject of this book.
This book is worth the price alone if you like cool pictures of space. There are tons of them within the covers. It’s also a good pickup if you like thinking about the nature of the Universe. Check it out below:
