What is Wrong With The New Itunes Gift Card?

I got a $15.00 gift card from my wife for Valentine’s day. Thaks honey! This morning when I went to scratch the cover off the secret code, I noticed that the card has been changed. Previously the iTunes gift card had a cover somewhat like a scratch card from the Lotto. Now it has a sticker of some sort. So, I started to scratch it off with my thumb nail, and much to my horror, the darn secret code below the card also came off! Thanks a lot, Apple! What the heck?
I did a little research, and it turns out that I am not the only person to suffer this surprise setback. My first step, once I get off my lazy butt, will be to attempt to return it to the store it was purchased from. I hope they will return it. As I mentioned, I was only partially in to scratching it off, so there is no way I could have redeemed it. I also have the receipt for the card. However, the receipt does say ALL GIFT CARD SALES FINAL, and gives a phone number to call if there are issues. We’ll see if that works.
If that doesn’t work, this might: Apple has instructions of their site. Click here to see them. You will need to scroll down. They say on there that you can email the customer support people with the serial number from the card and as much of the secret code as possible. Unfortunately for me, all I can make out clearly is two letters.
Update: I called down to Fred Meyers, which is where my wife got the card, and the customer service person told me they had been getting some card complaints lately. He had to put me on hold to find out what to do. But it turn out that they don’t have a system in place to accept them back. I will have to work it out with the folks at the 1-800 number on the gift receipt. Of course, they are closed today.
