www.gazelle.com is a website that allows you to get paid for recycling your old electronic items. You simply describe the item and they quote you an offer. From there they will send you a box, free of charge, you pack up the item, ship free of charge within the contiguous USA and you will get payment in about a week. They take cell phones, digital cameras, laptops, PDAs, GPS devices, gaming consoles, satellite radios, external drives, camcorders, video games, movies and LCD monitors. Payment is made via PayPal, check or Amazon gift card. Your data will be cleaned off the item, when applicable, and then it will be resold or recycled.
The newer your item is the more money that you will get for it. If the item is too old you they won’t pay you anything but will recycle it for you-free of charge. The more accessories you have the more your offer will be. I tested the site with an Apple Ipod mini and my offer was $2. However, the offer was $135 for my husband’s PlayStation 3.
If you can’t find the item in their catalog simply fill out the online form and they will get back to you.
Pros
- Money for old electronics sitting around your house
- Live chat is available to walk your through the process
- Get paid to reduce, reuse, recycle
Cons
- You do need to make sure to pack the item well so a trip to the store to get bubble wrap may be necessary
- Free shipping not available outside the contiguous USA

So… does your husband know you shipped off his iPod and his Playstation? Wow. I would be a little peeved if I was him.

I saw this article a few days ago while browsing resources to get cash for my old electronics and thought you might want to check out http://www.YouRenew.com. I was choosing between Gazelle and YouRenew and liked YouRenew.com’s service a lot more – it was friendlier, I got slightly better price for my iPod, and they donate to green charities at the end of the process.
You might want to check it out. The site just launched.
