So, I was getting stalked a bit by UPS the past few days. UPS had been sending me emails saying that they would be coming to my house sometime with my PS3. I think I got about ten thousand emails as it got closer and closer.
You may remember that recently it stopped reading disks. I signed up for an out of warranty repair which sucked 161.00 out of my wallet. My PS3 now (so far) has costed about 561.00 not counting extra controllers. Yikes. Lucky for me, when my XBOX 360 had the red ring it was under the extended warranty.
I had to mail to to Laredo, Texas. This city is extremely close to Mexico. It’s so close, in fact, that I believe defective units are shipped across the border and serviced somewhere in Mexico.
It was gone about a week tops, and most of this was in transit. The whole time, I was getting emails from UPS letting me know how it was faring as it was getting closer and closer. And Saturday night, I got the notice that it would arrive Monday evening sometime before 5:00.
So, I was a bit giddy yesterday. In fact, my wife had to pull me off the ceiling a couple of times during dinner. Every time I heard a car or trunk engine, I would jump up from my seat and race to the door to peer out of it, only to return folorn. In fact, I seem to remember her telling me to calm down.
Around 6:00, I heard the deep growl of the UPS truck. I raced to the door, and sure enough, there was a big brown truck at the street. I saw the friendly UPS lady as she got down and wandered up. She wasn’t carrying my PS3 box. In fact, she was carrying a small plastic bag. Uh-oh.
Me: Um…. I don’t think that’s my package.
Friendly UPS lady (checks non-PS3 package address): Sure, are you (gives my wife’s full name)
Me: No… she’s my wife. I was expecting a rather bigger box. With a playstation in it.
Friendly UPS lady: Ah. Well, here you go. Let me check. (goes back to big brown truck — rummaging sounds).
Me: (Silence. Pondering the universe)
Friendly UPS Lady: Hey, you’re right! Look at this! (carries box toward me that somehow has a spot light on it the whole way). Sorry about that. We have been having computer problems all evening.
Me: That looks like my Playstation!
Friendly UPS Lady: Sure, buddy. Sign here, please.
Me: Huh?
Friendly UPS Lady: Sign here, please.
Me: I… er… is that my PLaystation? It sure looks like it!
Friendly UPS Lady: OH boy. Fred warned us about this address. Sir, you can’t hug us. It’s against the law.
Me: (trying to cuddle the box). Sorry, I lost my mind for a minute. Er… who are you?
Friendly UPS Lady: Never mind, sir. (Backs up slowly)
Well, something like that happened last night. The details are a bit fuzzy. All I know is that I fired it up and it accepted The Dark Knight with no issues.
Unfortunately, my PS3 has a 30 day warranty now. I wish it were longer. It worries me that I will have to shell out another 150 to get it serviced if the issue happens again. Sigh.
