mystery-case-files-millionheir-2Mystery Case Files MillionHeir for the DS is a fun game.  It is all about looking for clues on the screen and then solving simple puzzles.  The goal is to find the missing Millionaire.  You have several tools to aid you in your quest, including a flashlight and an X-ray among others.

If you like “Where’s Waldo?” you’ll love this game.  Most of the gameplay consists of finding objects hidden on the screen. As you can see from the screenshot to the right, the big picture is on the top screen and the bottom screen is where you do your searching.  In this picture, we had to find a drum, a deer, and three other items.  You can see the drum at the very top of the pole.

So, you can see that it’s a lot harder than you’d first think.  It’s also quite addictive.  My wife saw me playing and started by looking over my shoulder.  Pretty  quickly after that I was showing her how the game worked and a few moments after that I was looking over her shoulder.  I ended up reading a book while she played.  Normally she hates games.

That was last night.  This morning, she has been wandering around muttering something about “secret clues” and “turning the key,” and “what’s behind Pluto.”  These must be things she discovered while I was reading.

Gaming Fun Rating: ★★★★½  I think this title would be appropriate for all ages.  It’s fun and the riddles aren’t too taxing.  Most of the items are everyday ones that most kids would be familiar with.  However some things, like the sextant for example, might require parental assistance to locate.

Music and Sound Effects Rating: ★★★★☆ I especially like that you can turn down the music if it becomes annoying.  However, so far every screen has had different sound effects and music so it’s not bad.

Graphics Rating: ★★★★★

Total Rating: ★★★★½
