So I did some more research online regarding my PS3 not reading disks. Here is one person’s solution. Unfortunately, I am too chicken to try it out. I will blow dust through it, but I am not sticking anything into the disk drive area. If you use this trick, be sure to remember that you are on your own. If your PS3 is still under warranty, I suggest you just contact Sony and have them fix it for you. If it is out of warranty, it’s a $150.00 fix. Yikes! You can see the video below.
Update 12-18-08: It seems that I fixed my PS3!
Here is what I did:
I very carefully blew all of the vents and the disk input area with a can of compressed air. Just to be safe, I also used my soft brush on my vacuum and sucked out the same areas. Then I tried several games. They all booted up perfectly. That was last night. This morning and afternoon, I was also able to play games! Yay!
Update 12-22-08: I now realize that I didn’t fix it! The darn thing is back to its tricks. It won’t recognize disks again. This happened last night and I did the vacuum thing and it worked last night. Today it didn’t work again. SIGH. I contacted Sony and they are sending me the box of doom. I sure wish I got that extended warranty from Best Buy.
Ok, here is that video:

You don’t have to be as careful as you say with these. However it is nice to see someone with limited knowledge using practical common sense and care and showing modest confidence in a task they have no prior experience in. Well done for your effort. If I were looking for a trainee you would get the job!

Kye: learn to spell, moron. “You’re” is the correct word to use in your statement. It means “you are.” “Your” is possessive. It means you’re telling him that he owns something. I’m sure the author doesn’t own any of what you are speaking of.
Plus, if you would have bothered to read the full article, you would have seen that he tried it and it only worked for a few hours.
