My PS3 Broke!

playstation3Sad news: My PS3 is broken. It has just simply stopped reading disks. It happened this afternoon, suddenly and without warning. This morning it was working fine. In fact, I played Lego Indiana Jones with my daughter, and downloaded a couple of trailers from PSN. This afternoon, I tried to play Fallout 3, Condemned 2, and Lego Indiana Jones and the PS3 didn’t recognize any of the games. So, I went online, and it turns out that a lot of people have had this problem.

It may have something to do with dust in or on the laser. However, from what I have seen, there isn’t a lot that a normal person can do. Resetting the laser (by holding the eject button for 10-15 seconds) didn’t do it. Neither did turning off and on the system by using the power button in back. Unfortunately, because I got my PS3 just over a year ago, I will have to pay $150.00 for Sony to fix it. Sigh. After suffering through the Red Ring of Death with my Xbox 360, I’d hoped that I had gone through enough “Next Gen” troubles.  Guess not.

If you are in the same situation, here is the link to Sony and their service site:  Sony Service
