Have you heard of Ben Bova? He’s won the Hugo six times. I only won that award once, maybe twice (ok, that was a bold faced lie… I have never won it). He’s written more than a hundred works of science fiction and fact. His new book, Mars Life is out, and it is a stunner.
Mars Life is the conclusion of a trilogy which began with Mars (1992) and Return to Mars (1999). It is enjoyable without having read the first two in this series. However, if you do love award-winning story telling, and love science fiction like I do, I suggest you check out all three. I put some links to Amazon below.
Here is a brief description of the book from Amazon:
“Jamie Waterman, who discovered cliff dwellings during his first trip to Mars, is struggling to acquire funding for continued research on the long-dead Martians, but his efforts are severely compromised by the increasing influence of religious fundamentalists. Their rise coincides with a global environmental crisis, giving the U.S. government another rationale for shifting resources away from Waterman’s work. Even the discovery of a Martian fossil can’t ensure the project’s viability, and Waterman and his wife return to the red planet in a last-ditch effort to keep the exploration going.”
