I just realized I forgot to put up a full review for these cool SurroundXi speakers! Unfortunately, my wife was so impressed with them that she stole them from me and has them at her work. I got a couple of solid days in with the set before the theft, however, and can report on my experience with them.
I really enjoyed my, unfortunately, limited use of the SurroundXi speakers. They sound great from any angle, but have a “sweet” spot which is about eye level when you are facing them. At that spot, it sounds like there is a band in the room with you… the sound doesn’t seem to be coming from the speakers at all, but from around around them. I found this to be rather disconcerting at first. The reason is because I was supposed to be typing away, working dilligently. But instead, I was just staring at the speakers with my mind completely gone, listening to music.
As I mentioned in a previous article about these speakers, they put out quite a bit of sound. I’m not an audio expert, but to me they sound a lot better than any other ipod speakers I have heard before. They can’t compete with a full-featured surround sound system, of course. But they are perfect for an office setting or for playing music in a small to medium-sized room. I played a variety of music with them, from classical to rock, and it all sounded great.
Mine had a plug-in in back so that I could hook up any MP3 player. I used an iPod and it worked perfectly.
So, all in all I would give these speakers a Rating:

You can find them for about $40.00 at Target. They are well worth the price.

Read article in local paper about SurroundXi and wanted to buy one at the stores mentioned (Target and KMart) but they dont have a clue about the product. Cant get it at their on line stores or anywhere else except at Rapha web site. Price is $60.00 not $40 or less.

Here is the contact for the company:

I went to their site just now, and it is still up. But you’re right, I checked all the companies that supposedly sell the product, and none of them have it right now. In any case, check out the contact link… you may be able to email them through there. I think you’re missing out big time. It is a sweet setup.

On a business trip near Atlantic City, I just purchased this thing at K-Mart for $39.00. I didn’t think it would actually be any good but returning it would be no problem. After hearing it, (connected to Zune 30Mb via rear jack) there’s no way I’m letting it out of my sight. Very impressive sound for something so portable; certainly the best I’ve heard. There is a bit of background hiss when the music’s not playing but it’s no big deal. Do yourself a favor and find this thing somewhere. The K-Mart I was at had at least twenty of them in five different colors (White, Silver, Pink, Blue and Black).
