Toshiba to Drop HD DVD?

There are some rumors floating about that Toshiba may drop HD DVD. Such a decision would finally kill the format, in my opinion. Heck, it’s already on life support, what with the recent decision of Wal Mart to carry Blu. Of course, there have been several other major retail chains that will only carry Blu-ray or will seriously push it (Best Buy). It’s been a bad couple of months for the brand.

Jodi Sally, the Vice President of marketing for Toshiba America Consumer Products, had this to say: “Given the market developments in the past month,” she said, “Toshiba will continue to study the market impact and the value proposition for consumers, particularly in light of our recent price reductions on all HD DVD players.” Even with all the price cuts, people simply aren’t buying HD DVD.

Is it any wonder? I myself am a solid supporter of HD DVD. However, I am reluctant to buy the brand right now, simply because at this point I think it will be a waste of money. I bet there are a lot of other people out there who feel the same that I do.

Does this mean Sony has won? More on that later. Source
