Sequels I’m Dying to See, Play, or Read

The following is a list of sequels that I would love to see, play, or read. I’m hoping somebody out there will create them! At this point they exist only as rumors.

10. Gears of War 2 (XBOX360): The first was simply amazing. Hopefully the next one will be a lot longer but be just as exciting.

09. Spider-man 4(Movies): Let’s face it. Spidey 3 sucked the big cheese ball. It was a total letdown from the high I got from the second one. They have to make a sequel, with a return to the one hero one villain format. Don’t leave me hanging, Sam Raimi! The Lizard might be a cool villain to explore. His alter-ego, Dr. Curt Connors has been in the first three movies. I’d also like to see Mysterio or the Chameleon. It also might be cool to see Spider-man in action with another well-developed hero such as Iron Man or The Fantastic Four. You wouldn’t have to spend time on a back story – just dive right into the main event! Check out this site for a rogues gallery of villains in the Spidey universe: Rogues

08. Serenity 2(Movies): Serenity didn’t do very well in the theaters, despite the fact that it was a stunning, well-made movie. It deserved better. It’s built up quite a cult following since 2005 when the movie was released. It deserves a sequel. If you haven’t seen it, don’t read the next sentence! OK I really mean it, stop reading! OK, here is a spoiler: There is a rumor that the two people who died in Serenity may be back for the next movie, if there is one. Also, that movie might either be a direct-to-DVD, or a made for TV mini-series, or even a movie on Sci-Fi. So, there you have it. All rumors, unfortunately. Every few months another rumor starts up and is quickly squashed. Sure would be nice, though!

07. Prey 2(XBOX360): You can find Prey for $20.00 at Fred Meyers. Pick it up if you can. It’s worth the price of admission. It’s a portal game that takes place inside the belly of a starship, and you are Tommy, a Native American looking for his girlfriend and learning to accept his heritage. It’s gory and exciting and filled with excellent music. I can’t wait for the sequel. Here is the official site for Prey

06. Star Wars 7 (Movies): There is a lot of “history” available to choose from with these movies. For example, it would be nice to see Han and Leia’s kids. There are also a lot of bad guys. I would like to see a return to the style of the first movie that came out, Star Wars 4: it had a lot less humor… it was more mystical in my mind. We didn’t know the force was created by some lame blood additive, for example.

05. Ancient Shores 2 by Jack McDevitt(Books): Ancient Shores was about a sailboat that is found buried deep beneath the soil of a North Dakota wheat field. It was constructed out of a material that was way beyond our capability. It turns out that the wheat field used to be the shore of a great inland sea…. ten thousand years ago. I can’t say anything more about this book because it would give away the surprise… so let’s just say that it just needs a sequel. Who knows if there ever will be one. (Amazon)

04. The Time Traveler’s Wife 2 by Audrey Niffenegger (books): I would love to see a sequel to this novel, but I am really not sure what that book would be like. My wife basically forced me to read this, and I enjoyed every word of it: it’s one of those books that you hope will never end but want it to end just to see how it turns out. It’s about a man who travels in time throughout time, encountering his wife and himself at various time periods. It is so good, they are making a movie out of it (starring Eric Bana!). (Amazon)

03. Bioshock 2 (XBOX360): This one should come as no surprise to folks who have been to this site before. As John would say, I totally HEART Bioshock! To a young (getting on older) virile (well-documented!) male, this is one heck of a game. I would love to see a sequel to this one, although, again, I’m not sure how that sequel would look. Maybe it’s just best to leave well enough alone. But it sure would be fun to visit Rapture again.

02. The Malloreon 2 by David Eddings (books): I am cheating here slightly since this was a series of books rather than a single entry. However, I still think it is past time for a sequel. If you haven’t read this series or The Belgariad, which the Malloreon is a sequel to, I strongly suggest you check them out! They are filled with adventures, swords, magic, elves, dwarves, Murgos, you name it. Eddings created a living breathing world populated with strong and moving people and adventures. I sure wish he would let us visit there again.

01. Duke Nukem Forever (PC): Duke Nukem 3D was, and still is, one of my favorite games ever. I’m not going to lie to you here…. I might be willing to trade my left nut to be able to play DNF.

Recently 3D Realms came out with a new trailer for this long delayed game. However, this isn’t the first trailer they have come up with, and it’s probably not the last. We’ll see.

So there, you have it! My Sequel Wish List. Can you think of any better ones? Drop us an email or leave a comment. We love both on this site. Thanks for reading!

(UPDATE 05-21-08):  You guys are right.  There are no Elves or Dwarves in The Belgariad or Mallorean.  My mistake!  One reader commented that he had read that Eddings will not return to this magical land.  That’s a shame.)
