Microsoft has a section on their website called “Viral Videos” which is perhaps the lamest use of a video camera and computer ever. Case in point:

This video about two cats fighting over a plastic bag. The description reads like the back of a DVD case: “Cosmo fights with his new kitty roommate D’andre for control of the highly coveted plastic bag.” What follows, when you are foolish enough to click on the video, is one minute five seconds of pure tedium. I could have sworn that the thing lasted for several hours, but no, just over one minute.

There are other “viral videos” on this site, and I am sincerely sorry if one of your videos is on there because most of the ones I saw were terrible.

So, here is my question. I looked up “viral video” on www.dictionary.com. It gives the following definition:

“a video clip or recording, esp. sent via email and which gains widespread popularity through sharing”.

Now doesn’t it strike you as odd that MICROSOFT, of all places would champion viral videos? This is MICROSOFT, remember, and they don’t like sharing anything.

In fact, they hate sharing. There are lawsuits that prove this. So, what’s the deal?
