I know people like toys no matter what age they are. Some people collect them, some people put them on their desk at work, and other people hold entire battles between the Ewoks and the Stormtroopers in their basement, proving once and for all that the Stormtroopers all should have been wearing fur coats at the end of that battle. In fact I…errrr, I mean my friend…likes to do that. So what?
Anyway something very cool to come along is the Star Wars Concept toys.
They are awesome. They’re R2-D2 and C3-PO as originally conceived by artist (and a very distant relative of mine) Ralph McQuarrie. He did most of the Star Wars concept art and production design. The painting in which they appeared (below) is a very popular one.
McQuarrie did some incredible work for the film, which is shown in various books, and seeing these toys approved and coming out is awesome. You’ll only be able to get these in the Celebration IV Store, May 24 – 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center or Celebration Europe Store at the ExCeL exhibition center in London July 13-15, which sucks big time.
