Welcome to Writely. It’s an online word processor (using ajax) that began accepting new accounts the other day. After launching Google Spreadsheets and Google Calender, Google Writely is yet another bid in Google’s attempt to knock Microsoft down a peg or three.

Rumors abound about a “Google Drive” for online storage and some type of “Google Powerpoint” type of web service launching sometime this year.

Like Google Spreadsheets, Writely uses a collaboration approach, can import Word documents, save to PDF, uses Rich Text Format, and can create zip files. There is an autosave feature every few seconds and it offers online storage. It only works with Mozilla and IE browsers. Have a look.
